Dear Parents,
In the wake of the tragic events that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Connecticut, we as child care professionals have questions, concerns, and fears that need to be addressed. Wellington Academy has always placed the safety of your children at the top of our priority list. Our centers have created and implemented emergency plans in the event of fire or inclement weather. The children of our centers have participated in drills monthly in order to prepare them in the event of an emergency. Sadly, we have come to the realization that other threats are present in our society and we must be prepared. We have contacted the Early Learning Coalition of SW Florida in order to determine the most efficient way to educate and train our staff. We have also contacted the local Fire Marshall seeking information regarding locks on classroom and restroom doors. Presently, our employees carry cell phones to contact authorities should any situation arise. Our classrooms and playgrounds are equipped with intercom systems and closed circuit cameras that are linked to the Front Office.
Please know that while your children are entrusted in our care, we will make every effort to ensure the safety and well being of each child. We will be meeting to discuss ideas, concerns, and suggestions with our Directors and staff. We will continue to keep our families informed.
We appreciate the involvement and trust that you have put into Wellington.
